It’s hard to figure out how our country is doing with all the fake news outlets covering stories that are either false or don’t matter. That’s why we need someone with their head on straight to point us in the right direction – someone very much like Melania Trump. Our First Lady recently spoke out about the opioid crisis and its effect on American lives.
“I think it should be on every media and the front pages of the newspaper, and I’m sure a lot of people would follow and go home and talk with the children and educate them, so they are responsible adults and they show them how drugs can be dangerous.”-Melania Trump
Unfortunately, opioids are rarely covered across all news networks. Even if they are, the highly-addictive drugs aren’t given the spotlight they deserve. How can we combat this crisis if no one is informed of what’s REALLY happening in America?
Melania took the initiative to spell out the situation during her two-day long “Be Best” tour of three key states. At each stop, she talked about babies born addicted to opiates, the problems they face and how to spread awareness of these shocking stories.
The issue isn’t just about early infanthood, either. Many narcotic-dependent infants go on to become addicts later in life; some overdose and die. Then, there is also the constant physical and mental health issues they deal with along the way.
The Trump Administration declared opioid addiction a public health emergency last year, earmarking millions of dollars for increased education, treatment, and prevention efforts all across the country. Of course, Melania also spends time teaching her son, Barron, how dangerous these chemicals can be when misused. Will the First Lady’s efforts be enough to convince the mainstream media to start talking?
