What “Wellness” Really Means

Wellness is the state that comes from realizing our real potential to evolve individually into a healthier, happier and more successful existence.

“Wellness is the result of personal initiative, seeking a more optimal, holistic and balanced state of health and well-being across multiple dimensions.”

~ John Valenty, CEO Wellness.com

Wellness Dimensions
Wellness is more than just healthy eating and exercise. It starts with an acute awareness of our current state of health in all areas of our lives. Then, it progresses once we develop the initiative for change and implement the tools and support required to make lasting changes towards a better life.

Wellness Dimensions

Wellness can be categorized into top-level dimensions that include spiritual, lifestyle, mental, social and physical. Within each primary dimension are several sub-dimensions.

Mental Wellness
Mental wellness involves the development of a willingness to invoke and maintain an ongoing learning aptitude that coincides with a healthy personal philosophy. It starts with a core of useful knowledge and only becomes more enhanced as the core is further developed.

Physical Wellness
Physical wellness covers our overall physical health, including our physical fitness and appearance. A wellness approach is not focused on avoiding thing like illness and disease, but understanding and implementing optimal physical health goals while accounting for the fact that our bodies are constantly fighting the elements that surround us.

Spiritual Wellness
Spiritual wellness involves an awareness of the purpose for which we are here, and a willingness to embrace and develop our innate gifts and talents in such a way as to fully enjoy the positive depths of our spirituality. Operating with a spiritual purpose rather than just moving through life with little meaning adds multiple dimensions and opportunities for levels of growth and pleasure with life that may have been previously unreachable.

Social Wellness
Social wellness includes an honest look at our relationships with society both in general and individually. The cultivation and maintenance of positive  and healthy relationships is of enormous benefit to us each as individuals, but also cannot help but results in a positive impact on our surrounding and environment in general. In fact, these types of relationships can even result in a sort of infection of happiness that travels from one person to another.

Lifestyle Wellness
Lifestyle wellness involves our productive time in life during various tasks and the environment where they take place, whether they involve employment or some other form of productivity. It also includes all elements of our leisure time and the places in which we live. Whether we go to a job or not, most of us spend the majority of our time trying to accomplish some sort of measurable goal(s) on a daily basis. For that reason, this element of wellness can have an enormous impact on all the other elements.
